Last Tuesday I went to a fine dining restaurant called Basil Leaf that serves excellent Thai Cuisine.
It's a single story bungalow with red walls, wood carvings, sculptures, teak furniture, flowing organza, thatched roof, candles and even a moat with lots of koi.
The food? Well ... a brilliant entree was the Mieng Kam. Finely chopped lime, nuts, shallots, garlic, grated coconut, dried shrimp and bird's eye chili. A bit of each on a Thai Betel Leaf, some of the tamarind sauce, wrap it and munch away. Refreshingly delicious. We also had the Thai Prawn Cocktail served in a spoon. Spicy & tangy.
For main's, my party of 9 went to town! Mixed Seafood & Chicken Tom Yam, Steamed Seabass with Lime Chili, Chicken Green Curry, Stir Fried Chicken with Crispy Lemon Grass, Baby Kalian with Salted Fish, Fried Rice with Lychee and the top 3 of the lot ... the Black Pepper Lamb, Deep Fried Garoupa in Spicy Basil Leaf sauce and Stir Fried Prawns with Butter. Each dish was ... amazing.
For me, the measure of a good restaurant is their dessert. Their Thai Mango Sticky Rice and Water Chestnut were beyond perfect and the Sago, well, I have not tasted one this good before.
The bill worked out to about RM78 per head. Not cheap but with the exceptional food, certainly worth it.
